12 Hours on the Mat for Mental Health: A Day Full Of Heart And Purpose

On October 12th, 2024, something truly unforgettable unfolded, an experience that tested endurance, sparked connection, and brought a deeply personal mission to life.

I embarked on a 12-hour continuous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu roll, not just as a physical challenge, but as a heartfelt stand for mental health awareness. This initiative proudly aligned with the incredible work of @ruokanyday and @the.next.step.australia, two organisations doing essential work in the mental health space.

Why This Matters

Mental health is a cause incredibly close to my heart. Like so many, I’ve had my own battles, moments of struggle, silence, and self-doubt. But through BJJ, and the guidance of @chaukaizen, I’ve discovered not only physical strength but healing, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

This event wasn’t just about testing limits, it was about breaking barriers, reducing stigma, and sending a powerful message:
You are not alone. Help is out there, and there is always a way forward.

A Powerful Collective Effort

I'm proud (and honestly, a little overwhelmed) to share that together, we raised a total of $4,400, which will be equally donated to both @ruokanyday and @the.next.step.australia. These funds will help continue their mission of supporting those struggling and educating communities about the importance of checking in and reaching out.

To all the other incredible members who participated, your heart, resilience, and unwavering commitment turned this idea into a powerful collective achievement. What an honour to roll beside you.

Thank You to Our Supporters

To everyone who donated, shared words of encouragement, and rolled with us—thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your presence, energy, and belief in the cause meant everything.

Special shoutouts go to:

  • Suasday @chaukaizen – for months of physical prep, pushing limits, and guiding me every step of the way.

  • @lipsanddrips_ – for the much-needed recovery IV treatment and support behind the scenes.

Let’s Keep the Conversation Going

Mental health matters. Every conversation, every gesture, every shared story chips away at the silence and the stigma.

This journey may have started on the mat, but it continues in every interaction, every community, and every act of kindness. Let’s keep showing up for one another.

With heartfelt gratitude,
